What this site is

TheThriftyDev is one builder documenting the practical side of running your own stack: automation that gives you hours back, tools that do not phone home, and the occasional rescue mission on hardware and software everyone else wrote off. Nothing here is theoretical. If it is written up, it was built first, broken, fixed, and measured.
The four tracks

Every post fits one of four tracks. Each has a hub page that collects the whole path in reading order.
- Automation and no-code. Hours back, using workflow tools you actually own. Start at the Automation and No-Code Workflow Hub.
- Privacy and digital rights. Surveillance, age verification, de-Googling, self hosting. Start at the Privacy and Digital Rights Hub.
- AI tooling. Capability without handing over the keys, local models included. Start at the AI Tools and Private AI Hub.
- Sovereignty as a practice. The reasoning underneath everything else. Start at the Sovereign Builder Protocol.
If you only have ten minutes

- Automation is your bottleneck: n8n AI Agents: Self-Hosted Automation Guide.
- Privacy is your bottleneck: Run Your Own AI: A Beginner’s Guide to Local LLMs.
- You want the argument first: What Is the Sovereign Builder Protocol.
What else is on the site

- Bobby’s Bunker: an offline friendly knowledge base for emergency response, health, food, water, energy, engineering, and community continuity. Built to be downloaded and kept, not bookmarked.
- Bleach Unlimited: the fan project that refused to stay dead, written up in How One Dev Rescued a Dead MMO From a Dying Engine.
- The Gaming, Preservation and Builder Stories Hub collects the preservation side of the site.
How to use the site

Pick the track closest to your problem, read the first guide in it end to end, then follow the related links at the bottom of each post. Posts point at their hub and hubs point at the rest of the track, so you can keep moving without digging through the archive. Where a guide has numbers in it, they were measured on real hardware with the tools named in the post.
