Manufacturing Fundamentals

Purpose: turn workshop work into repeatable output with clear quality gates and low waste.

Quick Start

  1. Define one product and one quality standard for this week.
  2. Map process from material intake to finished inspection.
  3. Create one-page SOP at each station.
  4. Track scrap, rework, and cycle time daily.

Common Mistakes and Fixes

Scenario Drills

Drill 1: Incoming Material Defect

  1. Inject off-spec stock into intake bin.
  2. Run receiving checklist.
  3. Confirm lot quarantine and substitution.
  4. Goal: defect never reaches station 2.

Drill 2: Gauge Failure Mid-Run

  1. Simulate measurement tool fault.
  2. Pause line and switch to backup gauge.
  3. Recheck last 5 parts.
  4. Goal: zero escaped defects.

Discipline rule: if a process cannot be measured and taught, it is not production-ready.
